SCIPP 99/43 1999 The Implications of Galaxy Formation Models for the TeV Observations of Current Detectors

چکیده
This paper represents a step toward constraining galaxy formation models via TeV gamma ray observations. We use semi-analytic models of galaxy formation to predict a spectral distribution for the intergalactic infrared photon eld, which in turn yields information about the absorption of TeV gamma rays from extra-galactic sources. By making predictions for integral ux observations at >200 GeV for several known EGRET sources, we directly compare our models with current observational upper limits obtained by Whipple. In addition, our predictions may o er a guide to the observing programs for the current population of TeV gamma ray observatories.

The Implications of Galaxy Formation Models for the TeV Observations of Current Detectors

We use semi-analytic models of galaxy formation to predict a spectral distribution for the intergalactic infrared photon field, which in turn yields information about the absorption of TeV gamma rays from extra-galactic sources. متن کاملUnderstanding the Spectra of TeV Blazars: Implications for the Cosmic Infrared Background
With the arrival of powerful, ground-based γ-ray detectors, we can now begin to seriously probe, via simultaneous X-ray/TeV observations, the origin of the γray emission in the blazars Mrk 421 and 501. If the synchrotron-Compton emission model turns out to work, then we know that the same electrons are responsible for both the X-ray and the γ-ray emission of these objects. In this case, we show...

baryonic matter distribution in the large-scale structures is one of the main questions in cosmology. This distribution can provide valuable information regarding the processes of galaxy formation and evolution. On the other hand, the missing baryon problem is still under debate. One of the most important cosmological structures for studying the rate and the distribution of the baryons is gal...
متن کاملStellar Populations in the Central Galaxies of Fossil Groups
It is inferred from the symmetrical and luminous X-ray emission of fossil groups that they are mature, relaxed galaxy systems. Cosmological simulations and observations focusing on their dark halo and inter-galactic medium properties confirm their early formation. Recent photometric observations suggest that, unlike the majority of non-fossil brightest group galaxies (BGGs), the central early-t...

We present a method of including galaxy formation in dissi-pationless N-body simulations. Galaxies that form during the evolution are identified at several epochs and replaced by single massive soft particles. This allows one to produce two-component models containing galaxies and a background dark matter distribution. We applied this technique to obtain two sets of models: one for field galaxi...
